Excellent shot - with the preparations looking so impressive, the take off must have blown you away! (figuratively speaking)

I've been following your stream for some time now (over 6 months now) and I have to ask: who are you?!?!? other than a venture capitalist (yes, I've read your bio and had a flick around the DFJ website), self-confessed geek & ex-HP design engineer (because you get yourself in the most amazing situations/places and rub shoulders with somevery influential people).

thanks y'all. Sage - too kind. Yes, I was blown away. More body rumble than the earthquake of '89....

I just used the uncropped version of this photo as my desktop. There is some amazing detail in there at original size on a big screen...

Oh, and shhhh... but the trick to getting this shot is to sneak off from the group and climb the Reuters remote camera ladder.

Otherwise there is a fence in the foreground which obscures the bottom of the view. It is the same patch of fence through which the families of the quarantined astronauts share their final pre-flight sentiments. Our vehicle was held back for a bit as they took a bit longer than usual.

I finally uploaded the launch video. The videocam was sitting on a solid balcony of a five-story building. It takes a few seconds for the sound of the launch to reach us, but then the camera vibration catches the feeling better than any soundtrack can. Your whole body shakes from the rumble.
