Strawberry and Champagne - Day 246

Following up on day 242, I tried a few of the suggestions I received.

Mark suggested strawberries and champagne, while Garrett and Phil offered background and lighting ideas. Here are other examples with light and dark backgrounds.

This picture is the only one I'm posting in a normal champagne glass. I like the splash, but the small glass makes it hard to get the entrained bubbles which made the cherries interesting.

First, I agree you don't get the 'entrained' bubbles (of course I had to look that word up), but I like the splash nearly as well. How many times did it take to get the strawberry to fall inside the glass?

The real question is what did you do with the leftover champagne and strawberries (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)? :-)

The strawberry actually fell in the glass every time - it didn't have to be dropped from very high to make a splash. The tough part was not hitting the shutter way too early or late.

As for the leftovers, you're not gonna find out :).

I think this took me about 15 minutes to set up. It was outdoors for the light and less worry about spills. I probably spent another 20 minutes to an hour dropping strawberries and learning to hit the shutter button at the right time. Even when you get that right, not every splash is interesting.

To think it was inspired for a wise guy comment below! :-) Obviously how a picture is tagged must drive viewing, hmmmm. It is still a great picture and I noticed it is proudly hung in your home!

'Very cool! Why not try strawberries in champagne. That way if the picture doesn't turn out, you can drink it and pass it off as a romantic escapade. :-)'

The interactions are what makes Flickr so good. I may not always even know which of your comments are serious and which are jokes, but in this case it led to a better picture.

This picture has been made a favorite by 6 people, the most of any of my shots. It has been used (and properly credited) on a couple of blogs, and that probably brought in a few people in addition to those who found it via the tags.

Ten thousand views! This milestone was reached on March 1, 2009, with my second most viewed photo trailing far behind at about 3,000. Oddly, the views jumped from 9,998 to 11,003 in a matter of a few hours. I suspect a data error, but maybe tonight's stat update will tell me more.
