Wow, this large Koi seems to have turned to gold in the morning sun! Emerging from the "icy" tropical water like a whale. I love the reds from another deep orange Koi and tiny Ruby Barbs feeding on tidbits..I've never seen my Koi this way! Magnificent!
This Koi is quite large. About 20 inches long! And quite heavy. It's the largest Koi in our pond. It's called an Ogon which means shiny, metallic one.
Koi are highly-breed carp! They are frequently called The Emperor's Fish because the Emperors of Japan and China were devoted collectors. Koi have been known to live for 200 years in ideal conditions, The oldest one, Konako, was 226 years old at death! They examined a scale to verify her age.
