What is this? - a ferret hammock.

Someone dug this out of their attic for a rummage sale, and has no idea what it is. It's kind of a sleeve of purple nylon, 16 inches long by 7 inches wide (folded), with a 2x2 inch square hole in the center of one side. Two short chains are clipped to either end. What the heck is it?
