Fighting the killer measles

Measles is possibly the biggest killer of children in emergencies. Crowded camps with many children not vaccinated are very vulnerable to sudden epidemics. Part of UNICEFs emergency response is to vaccinate all children for measles and mothers for neo natal tetanus. In the spontaneous settlements around Muganga over one week we vaccinated about 22,000 children.

Thank you. As to his look I suppose that it captures the sense of disorientation of these newly displaced children.
These children fled their homes because of fighting three or four days before. They come from small mountain villages. Now they are in Muganga where there are between 30-50,000 displaced people. Humanitarians and white cars are rushing around. They have just been brought into a huge white tent with UN and UNICEF painted on the outside to be jabbed for measles. On average a Congolese person visits once in every 6 years. On top of which there is a stranger with a huge camera taking pictures.
