Replies to my question: why doesn't anyone write a personal message when sending a LinkedIn request?! Especially when I have never actually met them before?

I do. In fact, I have a very detailed template I use, goes a bit like this:

My name is Christopher Penn, and I'm the CTO of the Student Loan Network, as well as host & producer of the Financial Aid Podcast, a daily free Internet radio show (no iPod required). I'm reaching out to my contacts, local businesses, and professionals in my industries, as well as old contacts, and would love if we could bond our networks together.

I'll promise not to flood you with garbage, though I've had the occasional request to introduce someone, mainly job hunters, which I usually pass along in good faith, since we've all been there at one point or another in our professional lives.

If it helps, here's a quick page or two about me as an update:

Thanks in advance for letting me become one of your professional resources!

      Best regards,

      Christopher S. Penn
