This type of layout should've been done in
InDesign. If it's done in Photoshop, then the
final results will be raster-based and not
vector-based plus your missing just about
every tool designed to assist and improve
editorial/publishing workflows. Basically,
think PS for raster-based artwork, AI for
vector-based artwork, ID for layout-based
projects.
Otherwise, nice and clean layout! If this is
simply a concept piece, then change the small
subhead to an author byline and you're all
set!
I always use photoshop simply because I still
have to learn InDesign, Illustrator and
others. I know it's more complicated to do in
Photoshop, but I'm used to it atm. It's
actually just for fun, since I'm not a
graphic designer or something like that but I
might study something in the design direction
when I'm done with high-school. Thanks for the tips and comments, and
hopefully when I get the chance I'll start
using InDesign ect. And just like others
thought, it's not a subheader but the
author's name (although it is Lorem ipsum).
Full view for a better look, although some of
it is Dutch.
Well since it's a byline, I have no
complaints then! And high school ... huh?
Force yourself to learn ID and you may have
an earlier career start! Nice work.
Nice layout typography, though not sure if
the "pull quote" in serif type
quite fits in. And to agree with the comments
above ID is the right software for text as
you will realise when you start on it.
Thanks sujitjp. The quote is serif since the
article is in a serif type too. And once I've
learned ID I won't use PS for this kind of
work anymore, it's just the one I'm used to
atm.

What Application do you use for this kind of Layout stuff?
J. Kleyn ∞ (53 months ago | reply)
I use Adobe Photoshop CS4. Adobe Illustrator would be better for some stuff, I still have to learn how to use Illustrator.

Thanks,
I like Illustrator more than PS but I haven't found out how to do it so accurate like you did.
