wow, no flashes? were the light-toys so
bright to give such clear portraits? for how
long did the people have to freeze then? with
the aperture f/8... i'm confused :)
sorry for asking such detailed questions -
i'm just continuously experimenting with this
stuff myself but didn't manage yet to get
such clear portraits... although i've never
done such still ones yet :)

Yup, they are. Just a matter of
timing/speed. Gotta do the face lighting
quickly. Zip zip. Fire is especially hard
because it's so bright and not directional.
It can easily make everything it shines on
blurry.
There's nothing magical about f8, but
that's what I've used for light painting
going back over a decade.

well... your approach is f/8 with iso 200,
while i've been practicing f/2.8 wtih iso 50
i'll definitely try your method sometime
soon ;)
