Busted!

Notes: Shot with Nikon F100 with Sigma 15mm on Fuji 160C
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------
The usual crew of threshold, rizzolo, skazama and rtlm401 came out to Providence to shoot the IWAY before it's impending opening of the Rte-195 East Bound lanes in November.

I set up my tripod halfway on the dirt road in the backside of the construction site and before the new on ramp from 195W to 95S. I was standing just off frame out of view when I opened the shutter on a timer controlled remote.

A construction pick up truck drove off the bridge and decided to drive down this patch of road but slowed as he neared my rig in the road. He was going really slow at this point (not to mention lighting up my expsoure) probably wondering what the hell was in the road.

Well I stepped out to save my gear shielding my eyes as I looked directly at the truck. As the worker drove by to turn around, I thought about bolting but thought better and just set my rig back up in the same location and prepared to take another shot. The guy came by and asked me what I was photographing - "... beautiful night sky and IWAY progress", I told him... he was like "Okay" and drove off.

Lesson learned from previous night shoots... remain calm and try not to bolt around hiding... that'll just attract attention and the fuzz! If you are obvious in what you do, then people will usually ignore you.

After finishing the film in my F100 and Holga I allowed the D200 to come out and play. That wasn't until 11pm and the "Late Nighters" stayed until 1:20am... man was beat the next day. See the D200's "Busted-Less" version much later that evening.

You can see a group pool here of all our shots on Flickr from the night or a slick slideshow here. It may take a week or so for all the shots to be posted.

The Joy Of The Mundane, ∆ toma ϟ, notraces, swirling miasma, and 34 other people added this photo to their favorites.

This is so awesome and holy-cow does it ever make me want a fisheye! The colours of the 160C are sweet and saturated.

fantastic, love the bright light of the head lights.
and it seems the fish eye lens is just so good for night photography

Can you say chicken?!? I think you would have lost though and that truck would make the night your F100 hit the rocks and sand look like minor damage...

I generally like the composition on this one but the stacks and the port-o-pot are competing for my attention too much. Those workers in the truck deserve a beverage for giving you that great flare coming from the vanishing point of the highway. We should have broke out the mini-bar and toasted to them...

This image says a lot - very interesting composition, colors, and clouds. You can come out of the "Port a John", the truck is long gone by now.

frankienose, headlights indeed! Yes I had a few seconds to figure out what to do - glad I kept my head on =)

Toma01, thanks for stopping by and the kind words.

Bob, thanks and yes the Sox are still out front (for now at least =)

David Tyner, thanks man - just go get a fishy, they're fun fun fun... and lots of times you find yourself saying "Whoaaaaa"

pxlpusher, thanks so much it's been many moons (pun intended) where we got a quality night.

mharvey75, hehehe nice one - hey you gotta go you gotta go right?

threshold, chicken you say? At first I wasn't sure if he was coming down our road or not but the headlights were a dead give away. As for buying the guy a drink? He could have well kicked us our or run over my gear... so sure, have a swig on us =)

cormack13, thanks the story is always 1/2 the photo I think but yes, glad people aren't as paranoid as the other 1/2 of us all.

rizzolo, thanks - I think Russ was hiding in there eh?

wawahooha78, thanks I think Ed was ducking behind some shrubery

WOW! with f100! hahaha, security ppl are less forgiving than truck drivers around parking structures at night... from my experience! great shot!

Definitely a 'don't go into the light" shot fer sure - kinda prefer this one to the later shot .. more dynamic....

Yeah it's hard to know how to react when someone 'discovers' you with a camera in unusual circumstances.

Totally agree that "calm and open" approach works best - except with farmers dogs in the dark, in the rain - I shall miss that umbrella fer sure ;-)

Hi! I lived in PVD for 6 years during the 1980s. Where is this, and what's the IWAY?

(Send my love to Wickendon St, please)

Ha! Ya, know the feeling. Had enough fuzz wondering what _I_ was doing, too. However, managed to survive w/o 1 single problem.
