Moon Over Forest Fire

Moon Over Forest Fire by Old Shoe Woman.
The full moon was still shining as I drove home tonight. Someone was burning off the underbrush in a forest of pine trees--a common occurrence in South Georgia. It may have gotten out of hand because there was a lot of fire.

Thanks, dogfaceboy. I could hardly believe the scene and was glad that I've made myself a 'camera bag/purse' so that I have my camera with me at all times.

What a fortuitous shot! I love how firelight (usually campfire-hopefully:)) illuminates the forest at night.

Thanks, Luminuscule, scupper, and Altweibersommer. I still haven't been taking a tripod with me; so, I'm resting the camera on the open window of my car.

great shot - looks like the moon caused the fire...or the fire caused the moon.

nice work, carrying a camera at all times is a must. you might be able to get a nice reflection when placing the camera pointing across the roof towards the scene, and setting the camera on self-timer to avoid shake. worth a try for some additional crazyness.

Thanks, neuskool. I'll try this. I have a remote control for my camera. I've never attempted to use it. Lots of fun things for my future in photography.

Thanks, Oop, deadmanguru, Technicolor Girl, Juice Box, kitykity, Cade, BidWidya, boobyboo, and tokyo knock. I appreciate every comment.

Amazing that you got the moon and also the fire in the picture. It's terribly dry over here in Alabama and a fire like that would travel fast. Interesting picture.

Yes, I agree. It's beautiful, and natural on both sides. Natural firelight, and natural moonlight. Eerie how the forest ominously glows, as the fire naturally grows? I'm not so sure that the fire has gotten out of hand. The glow is simply exxagerated by the darkness of night. In that photo, it doesn't look like so much fire?

Then let it travel fast. I think we humans fight forest fires more so than we have to. Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to let more forest fires spread naturally, and leave them more to nature to manage? We can still protect property and do backburns, but I doubt that full "containment" is really so necessary. Backcountry wilderness often doesn't really need our "help" to manage, but will grow back with sun and rain anyway.

Peace Old Shoe Woman!
this photo is amazing!!! my partner and i would love to incorporate it in a multi-media show we are creating called "Hurricane Season." it's a two-woman that explores "unnatural disasters" around the U.S. and the globe, followed by a "solutions-cipher" that aims to channel the energy generated during the performance into action manifested in the community. We would *love* to use this image with your permission. It's a real grassroots thing, so we don't have money to pay you, but will credit you exactly as you wish and get you into the show for free. We're traveling to almost 50 cities beginning in the summer in a bus converted to run on recycled grease... You can find out more about Hurricane Season at www.climbingpoetree.com. Thank you for letting us know if this is possible, and thanks again for your work!
Many Blessings,
Naima

Interesting, I like how you captured the moon in a more violent setting.

I have featured it on the 20 Magnificent Photographs of the Moon inspirational roundup on ComposeClickEdit.
