Digital Zoom of Fort Ticonderoga from the First Lookout of Mount Defiance
On the outskirts of Ticonderoga (we finally found the right road), you can drive to the top of Mount Defiance and look across Lake Champlain and see Fort Ticonderoga. That's where the British dragged cannons to the top and aimed them at the fort. The Americans had to surrender. They had thought that no one would do that. They were wrong.
One amazing story about this fort is the fact that the Green Mountain Boys took the fort from the French. It was in the winter of 1775-76 and Lake Champlain was iced-over. They took the cannons out of this fort and oxen pulled them on sleds down to Boston to George Washington. We have had many brave people fight for our freedoms in the United States of America. This includes those who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. We will not forget. God Bless America.
