Autumn Morning in Central Park: The Loeb Boathouse

Autumn Morning in Central Park: The Loeb Boathouse

This is the second post for my "Autumn Morning in Central Park" series. The Loeb Boathouse is an iconic spot in the park. Situated on the Central Park Lake, you can go there to eat, host a private event, or rent rowboats and go on the water.

This panorama was taken from Bethesda fountain and consists of four photographs taken in portrait mode and stitched together. Once again, the photograph was processed using luminosity masking to bring out the most in local contrast.

Autumn Morning in Central Park: By the Bandshell

Autumn Morning in Central Park: By the Bandshell

So a few weeks ago I decided to dust off my 5D, which I have so badly neglected for much of this year, and made a mission to wake before the sun rose to snap some shots of New York City's Central Park before other visitors arrived. I made the decision to do this about a week too late as many of the leaves had already fallen, and I missed out on capturing peak fall foliage. My session was still fairly successful, though, and this will be the first of a series that I will post over the next few weeks.

This panorama was captured the Central Park Bandshell, facing north towards the Bethesda Fountain. It consists of five photographs taken in landscape mode at about 35mm to which I stitched together and corrected perspective.

This photo also marks a new channel in my photography; it is my first attempt at developing photos using luminosity masks, a method that is very well practiced by my good friend Adam Baker and mastered by landscape photographer Tony Kuyper. I'm nowhere near an expert with it, but I am pleased with my results.

As you view this, make sure to view this photo larger to get the full effect.
