So tomorrow is New Year's Day for a lot of people and as I didn't have a photo for the week, once again, I thought I'd head to Chinatown to see if I could catch the tail end of any possible celebrations. Unfortunately any small events that may have been going on had ended but I figured I'd get a few random shots anyhow.
Nighttime shooting around LA is how I initially learned to use a camera yet still to this day I don't really like any of my nighttime photos. I find that I have a very difficult time balancing realism but still capturing enough of the ambient light to show the scene. Out of the few photos that I captured tonight though I really liked the movie-like quality of this particular image and the fact that, in an area of several large but always moving groups of people, there was this one couple that stood still for the duration of the twenty second exposure.
I'm hoping next week to bring out my speedlights again so I can get some lit pictures. It's been quite some time since I've really consistently shot with them and I really need to get back in the habit.
