i'm betting you like tv. i know, it's a risky gamble but i'm going to take that leap and go out on a limb and say; here's a person who might like tv. i thought it was a poster at first...

Whoever thought out that layout for the TV was smoking crack. Under a stairwell and next to a wall?

It does look a bit odd in the picture, but it's really not bad when sitting on the couch. See: flickr.com/photos/jsewell/150378840/in/photos tream/

Elektricki, that was a bit rude. It's a very nice setup- one I envy quite much.

Looks great, Jason!

I'm curious -- is there easy access to the cabling by some hidden space from the room adjacent? Or is it a "wire once and hope you never have to do it again" type thing?

Either way, I dig it.

That's a great built-in! I never thought to do that to the area under my stairs. Now if I could just figure out the best way to run coax and cat-5 there.....

How is this stet up...? What is hooked up to what? How do you have it to work?

There is a closet under the stairs accessible through a full-sized door, so all of the wiring is easy to get to. Also behind the wall is a 1-terabyte hard drive array, audio amplifier, 30Mb/s FIOS connection, EyeTV 500 HD tuner, and a big UPS backup.

Was the Mini able to utilize the full quality of HDTV? My concern is that the Mini's graphic card cannot output for Dual-link DVI. When you view text from the Mini on TV, is it crisp, or does it look like a VGA-to-DVI signal? An issue with the Mini's graphic card is that it cannot output a display size that will utilize the hdtv's maximum "real estate."

proud_canon_owner , I'm a stupid kid that has no respect for anyone. Not really... I didn't think it was that harsh. It was more of an insult to the design than the home-owner. Hope I didn't hurt your feelings. :(

Neal Gardner,
The Mini outputs 1920 x 1080i using the DVI to HDMI Cable. The text is small, but perfectly clear and readable at that resolution.

I believe I'm limited to 1080i when using the HDMI inputs on the TV due to the television itself, not the Mac.

I think that if I use a DVI to VGA converter (the TV has VGA inputs as well), I can output true 1920 x 1080p, but at the expense of clarity due to analog conversion. I haven't tried that yet, as 1080i looks fine to me.

I'm just curious. Why do you have an EyeTV 500 HD tuner and a Tivo? It sounds redundant. With the EyeTV 500, are you able to record HD reception from cable shows (not premium, but say, ESPNHD or Discovery HD). Thanks.

rrac, That's right, I use the EveTV to record HD content, both over-the-air HD broadcast and clear-QAM broadcast (the non-premium channels) on cable. The TiVo records the standard-definition shows. I've got 5 tuners total in the setup and I can record three shows concurrently while watching a fourth.

After checking out the floor plan, I still don't get having a TV in the corner of a room. With the seating layout I'm sure it's fine. Looks really impressive.

You'll see that the mini can do 1920x1200. That's even better than 1080p. Of course networks don't broadcast higher than 1080i anyway so it doesn't matter.
