Belvédère du Rayon Vert hotel in Cerbère

Belvédère du Rayon Vert hotel in Cerbère

Squeezed in between the railway and a street you will find this astonishing art deco hotel in Cerbere, the last town in France Sud before you reach Spain.

You can still stay overnight here and experience an almost original interior of the 1930'ies...

Belvédère du Rayon Vert hotel in Cerbère, an Art Deco wonder from 1928-1932 designed by the Perpignan architect, Léon Baille – sort of a big ship, with its own cinema and a tennis court on the roof. Way cool.

A child in Bethlehem - anno 2011

A child in Bethlehem - anno 2011

A child in Bethlehem in 2011.
Behind the window in an old, worn out, school bus this Palestine boy looks out to the crowded streets of the Palestine city Bethlemen.
In the neighborhood of the church of nativity, a sacred place for many christian religions, even muslims.
With the sheperds fields only 3 km away, at the same distance as the Israelis famous wall separating part of the Palestin western bank isolating them (the Palestins) from their ("new - returned") neighboors: the Israelis....
Two folk groups apparently unable to live together..

What a world 2000 years after the birth of Jesus of Nazarets, born in the same place as this child was photographed November 2011.

Lightning in open Sea

Lightning in open Sea

On board the big cruiseship m/s Constellation we could one night out in the open sea of east Mediterranian explore a distant lightening "show" - no sound to be heard only those scary moments when the pitch black dark exploded in blue.

With no tripod and a ship moving at app. 35km/h (20 knots) it was not easy to go with a 1 sec shutter, still IMO a satisfying result. (Probably because the lightning only lasted for a small part of that second in exposure time..)

The construction to the left is an outside lift on the big ship. Quite breathtaking taking the lift in such a weather.

NO PP in this photo beside some sharpening

Womens latrine in Ephesus

Womens latrine in Ephesus

As the marble in the latrine was rather cold for the fine ladies seating - they often let slaves sit there for warming up before they entered...

The 1st-century Roman latrine of Ephesus was rather advanced and civilized for its time. It was constructed over a channel with an uninterrupted flow of water and the toilet seats, formed by cutting holes into marble benches that line the walls, were covered by a roof.

The rest of the large room was open to the sky, and had an impluvium (a sunken pool for catching rainwater) in the center. The floor was covered with mosaics.
