I Am More Than Just A Medical Record Number

I Am More Than Just A Medical Record Number by JordyR.
Please indulge me for one more day. Today I spent over four hours in my hospital's emergency room. I had trouble breathing, and I thought maybe I should check that out. I mean usually I just bitch about feeling bad and rarely do anything about it. But this, I thought maybe I should get it checked out.

Oh, I am fine. A little pluera something -- some water build-up between my lung and its sack. It'll be painful breathing and I'll have shortness of breath for a day or two or so more, but I'll live. I mean I was s happy I left the ED and had a smoke!

But, that's not the point. The point is that I represent hospital leadership at times in ways that make me forget who staff these things. All of the nurses and techs and docs and everyone was extremely talented and professional and just plain nice. Now true, they did know I was VIP, but I got to watch how others were treated, and the whole experience was very eye opening.

So, I am happy to report (i) I am gonna complete this 365; and (ii) I am more than a medical record number to those providing care.

Oh, and anyone wants my identity, have at it. You'll get bad credit, a huge mortgage, and access to my medical record. wooo hoooo.

Oh, and here's the other thing. I am calling in sick tomorrow I think. So, I get to play on flickr all day and finally finally catch up on comments.

Jordy, I'm really glad everything turned alright at the hospital and that you were discharged today. My mother has worked at a hospital pretty much all of my life so not only have I gotten the "behind the scene tours" many times but I've also have heard some of the most heart sinking stories about individuals coming in with relatively minor problems and being forced to weeks, months, etc. The point is I'm glad your going to be alright, and that I hope you feel better soon.

Glad that you are better, and have time to recuperate. Regarding smokers: "Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray full of cigarette butts and ashes"....OK, on to other topics - this is a great photo!

I had that a few years back. I was having a hard time breathing and bad aches for like... a week before I told my mom and she had me go to the doctor. lol I ended up having to stay home from school and work for like a week. I guess I let it get too far. blah, blah.

Great shot! My mom was hospitalized a while back for over a month and I spent a good deal of time witnessing the commitment and humanity of the staff. Glad you're okay!

Glad to hear you're not going to take a medical retirement from your 365, although it does sound like you're in for a few more days of discomfort. And no, I don't want your identity (or mortgage!). But I did take down your birthday. Expect an "Over the Hill Bouquet" next May! ;)

I'm glad that it wasn't anything serious. Glad also that your experience wasn't traumatizing.

I too worry little about identity theft for the same reasons. I mean, worse they could do is make my credit better ;)

this is a wonderful shot. i hate going to the ER. i can't afford nice health insurance so i have to go to the local university hospital. it's always a nightmare, and the nurses are alway...well, almost, very nice. but damn if they don't always end up forgetting about me and sticking me in a dark corner surrounded by vomiting people...UGH! and don't even get me started on how i was treated with all my recent abnormal pap stuff...blah!

Great shot by the way. The depth of field looks awesome -- perfect detail in the foreground.

Glad everything is ok...I had a great laugh over the stealing your identity thing...and your right. Nurses are totally under appreciated. After my c-section last fall, I had a whole new appreciation for them. Anyone who would willing clean (usually with a smile, no less ) up the vile things that slide out after birth, on a complete stranger, are not paid enough, no matter how much they get!

Dude, you are calling in sick? That rocks! Enjoy your day off, catch up on flickr, smoke some more, and have a scotch for me!

Ok, maybe that was irresponsable of me, but no doubt you are sick of people telling you to take it easy, so I wont.

You did remind me of Dennis O'Leary though, same attitute I guess.

Anyway dude, I hope you are ok.

i've sat in the er many times and even worked there for a week. i was appalled by how some people were treated. by some i mean people who were not well dressed, educated etc. i was moritifed by something someone said about a homeless man whom i was working with. i saw and heard an er chief talk dispicably to an immigrant family as if they were dirt stupid. they had brought their child in for help they couldn't have been that stupid! i should stop here or i might explode.
