Milky Way in the desert

Scoping out dark-sky sites near my new home in Lehi. This was taken at the Pit 'n Pole site, which has very nice skies to the south and west, a light dome to the east, and ridiculous casino-rivaling sodium vapor glare to the north from something military or industrial, which I attempted to mitigate by wandering around in the dark until nearby topography got in the way.

I had a few nice views through my 8" Dob there--emphasis on few, because I realized after I got there that I had forgotten my finder scope, making it quite difficult to aim at anything. I think I spent a good 15 minutes looking for Andromeda (which was a difficult target at the time anyhow, being almost at the zenith--but quite rewarding once I found it).

Don't know if I'll go back there; I think I could get decent views 10 miles closer, near Fairfield, and also, this site is actually not any closer from Lehi than my old favorite sites in South Fork Canyon...
