The Xcel Energy Center, also known as "The X," opened in downtown St. Paul in 2000. This 18,064 capacity arena is a state-of-the-art facility mainly used for hockey. It is the home to the Minnesota Wild NHL franchise and professional lacrosse team the Minnesota Swarm. The WCHA Final Five is also held here on a regular basis, as well as the MSHSL tournament. In recent news, it was the site of the 2008 Republican National Convention which drew visitors from around the country.
