Laura has the distinct honor of being the first of my peer group to emerge as a fully fledged librarian. I am very proud to know as many as I do. Everyone should be lucky enough to be friends with at least one librarian, because while books make great friends, friends with books are even better.

Gavin is the son of friends Jason and Laura. Sadly we see them about once a year, but on the plus side our kids seem to get along pretty well anyway...

Another friend from college, Jason teaches in the Portland area. Somehow he does it without sustaining (or inflicting) any bodily injuries. It's the kind of patience I really admire.

I met Josh at my brother in law's wedding this summer. Right about the time I asked my cousin to step outside for her her turn portrait project...

My cousin Kristin in Oklahoma City. Having my family so spread out, and being able to see them so infrequently really emphasizes the importance of photographs to me: snaps, or portraits honest photos make those more distant that much more present across the distance.
