Day 49 - Old Treasures

Day 49 - Old Treasures

That was close. When uploading pictures earlier, I noticed that my day numbers didn't seem to add up. Thankfully I didn't have to go too far back to find the missing day, and the photos were still sitting in my phone.

This was taken during the clear up of the spare bedroom following the 'mishap' of the week before. I was sorting through all the things that were covered in soot and rubble and came across this. I've had it for as long as I can remember. In the shape of a VW Beetle, its actually an old Avon aftershave bottle (the boot lid came off to reveal the contents). Gotta love that classic shape.

Day 54 - Silver Lining

Day 54 - Silver Lining

I had to do an extra long day today to cover for a poorly colleague. After a very busy and knackering few weeks, this probably wasn't what the doctor ordered, even if the bank manager did.

However, at 9am this morning, tickets and the first line up details were released for this year's Kendal Calling. We weren't going to go... but the cunning swines had put my wife's top four favourite bands of all time on the bill (one of which - Maximo Park - I'd spent the past 12 months campaigning to KC to consider booking). We've been twice before and, being veterans of many a music festival, KC is easily my favourite. If its half as good as 2009 or 2010 (we went to Bestival in 2011, which wasn't a patch on it) then we'll be in for a great time.,

Well, that's that then. As they say around those parts, see you in the fields.

Day 52 - Industrial Past

Day 52 - Industrial Past

I read this news story last week. It talked of the potential scrapping of the last industrial relic in the now gentrified area of Salford Quays (formerly Salford Docks) close to where I work. So I thought I should use a sunny lunch break to investigate and take a photo while I have the chance. Its certainly true that they've been left to rot, as you can see from this shot from underneath (below in comments):

It'll be a big shame if they can't be saved. You can see from the surroundings that they are slightly incongruous against the buildings that have grown up around them. Yet they are one of the very few remaining memories of the fascinating history of this area.
