Independents Hall is a member organization in Philadelphia that provides professional work space, collaboration opportunities, and a variety of social, cultural, and community service activities for members.
These are visual notes from a recent town hall meeting, where members brought each other up to date on various milestones, challenges, and successes and since the last meeting.
Successful events include regular meetings of an Cocoa (Apple) programming group, monthly show-and-tell events, a couple of blood drives, and free legal and insurance Q and A sessions with experts geared toward independent businesses.
The biggest recent challenge was figuring out how to respond to a series of recent petty theft incidents.
The response is largely going to be a variety of processes geared toward strengthening the social immune system of Indy Hall so the community can police itself better. This will dovetail with other measures, like using lockers, and investigating insurance options to cover members property.
In a final note, Alex Hillman, a cofounder of Indy Hall, encouraged members to keep coming up with cross pollinating opportunities with other parts of the Philadelphia business, tech, and cultural, ecosystem
I created these large scale visual notes on a whiteboard while listening to the proceedings.
I love the vision, passion, and pragmatism the permeate Indy Hall and encourage you to attend one of their events if you are ever in Philadelphia. It's a great place to work, connect, and discover.
