A quick test of my new setup. Apart from a slight crop due to a very pesky cable, this is unedited. I promise that images far more compelling than lame self portraits will be coming soon. So many ideas cooking in my head. :)

strobist:
key light - Alienbee AB800 with shoot through umbrella, flagged (ie, cardboard, cheap stand, and dollar store clamp)
fill light - Fotodiox L-300A with Photoflex softbox.
hair light - Fotodiox L-100 with snoot (ie, black construction paper and duct tape)
background light - Fotodiox L-100 with two color gels. (ie, binder dividers from Staples.)
catch light - silver-side of a reflector clamped to a stand.

All slave triggered with the flash in the photo, which was triggered by the D300s taking the photo. Phew.

snow day project: clean out a portion of the basement and set up a small studio and workstation.

lots more work i want to put into it, but its functional!

In other news, I found out today that this portrait ( www.flickr.com/photos/jonmac_photography/2742239941/sizes... ) that I took of my niece was published in the Fall 09 issue of JPG magazine. They never told me! Still, it feels nice to be published in JPG for a second time, even if they're mainly digital distribution now.

Sorry flickr, I've been neglecting updates that were promised.

There's way more from recent shoots, but this will have to do for now... I finally have time today to put into formatting my images for my upcoming website relaunch. Woohoo!
