Taikodani Inari - Sacred Tree

The twisted straw rope is a traditional Shinto symbol (going back to the Amaterasu myths), and creating fresh new ones periodically -- usually every few years -- is a major festival event.

This is a classic sacred tree: old and unusual looking.
