woo hoo bbc news in beijingApparently China Mobile Communications Corp. said in a statement it will test the standard, known as TD-SCDMA, by issuing 20,000 phones and 5,000 data cards on 1st April 08 in Beijing and seven other cities. My modem picked up a GPRS signal, but could not connect. ![]() Proof positive that the BBC News website can be accessed in Beijing. I'd LIKE to say that I picked it up on the gprs wireless connection, but alas my three account does not support data in China... so this was loaded into the laptop earlier in the day. Asus eeePCs are great, you can carry them anywhere, and now I have Clavis Sinica loaded on it it makes a great translation and language learning tool.

...alas the new BBC news website layout makes its content much less readable on a small devices, so a great leap forward by China and a great leap backwards by the BBC...
