On March 6, 2008, at Folly Beach in Hilton Head, SC, I asked Amy to be my wife. She said yes!
It was exactly one year ago, and at this same location, that Amy had told me she first realized she loved me. It seemed the perfect time and place for me to ask her to be my wife.
I had her convinced that we were eating with clients at an upscale restaurant (hence, her dress and my suit). On the way to the "restaurant", I asked if she would mind if we took a few pictures at the beach. What she was unaware of was that, while she had been getting ready for the last hour, I was at this beach creating this heart out of flower petals.
I walked out on the pier with her about 3/4ths of the way and then requested she run back to the car to grab a lens for me. Amy, always gracious, did just that. When she approached the end of the pier, I could see that she noticed a flower petal or two. As she walked closer, she noticed more and more. Because I was at the bottom of a slight slope, she didn't see the full scene until she was about 100 feet away. I could see her face turn flush as soon as she saw it, because she knew the possibility of such a scene.
I asked her to leave my lens in the sand and come to me (not my brightest idea). I spoke from my heart for awhile and then took a knee to ask her hand in marriage. Of course, I had to remote a 10 second timer to catch the occasion.
We will be married in May or June of this year. Thank you all for your encouragement and support!

On March 6, 2007 Jon and I stood on the shore of Folly Beach and I realized he was the love of my life. Desperately, I wanted to share my feelings, but for fear of them not being mutual, I kept my love secret for months.
Last week, on March 6, 2008 Jon and I returned to Hilton Head and Folly Beach. Jon frequently takes audit trips, and fortunately, I occasionally go along. The audit on this particular day was scheduled in the late afternoon and we had dinner reservations at a nice restaurant afterward. Jon picked me up at 6:00 and suggested we stop by the beach and take a few pictures since our reservation wasn't until 7. As we walked down the pier, Jon realized he had forgotten his favorite lens and asked me to return to the car and get it for him. I went and as I came back up the pier, I noticed flower petals guiding my path toward the ocean. From about 100 yds away, I saw Jon standing in our amazing rose petal heart. He was in his suit, so handsome, and just smiling at me. Anxiously, I joined him in its center. We talked about love, life, and our happiness together. I cried, so much. My emotions were overflowing as I realized our heart was made in the same location as we had stood exactly one year before. As he took his knee and asked me to be his wife, he triggered a timer and the moment was captured.
We stayed at the beach for quite a while. Jon had also brought a beautiful wooden box engraved with wedding bands, for us to fill with sand and rose petals.
I am still so amazed by God's love. Jon has been such a gift to me and Caroline. He is my best friend, my gaurdian, and my partner. I would absolutely do anything for him without a moments hesitation. The love I feel for Jon and for Caroline is consuming, and I thank God for every day I live in this incredible world with them.
We hope to be married in May or June of this year. Caroline is 3 years old, and just a few days ago she said "Daddy" for the first time. We explained to her that a Daddy is a boy Mommy, and that Jon loved her so much that he wanted to be her Daddy.
Love is so beautiful! These moments come together for a greater purpose when you give your life to God. Through love He has turned my life around, and I am so grateful to have been saved!

When you have a wife with a knack for artistic creativity, you end up with ginger bread houses that look like this. What a wreath! :)
