Lighthouse At Sunset

Lighthouse At Sunset

This is a shot of the lighthouse in Lachine, Montreal. The 3-stop ND filter helped me get calmer water. The shot was edited in ColorEfex Pro and Viveza as well as (very) slight edits in Aperture 3.

I'm really, really enjoying my recent Really Right Stuff purchases. That BH-55 head is amazing, but I've yet to really play with the panorama stuff. I'll do that next week.

Duality (HDR)

Duality (HDR)

It took a while, but I finally made it to this beautiful spot to shoot the Mercier bridge. I took most of my shots that day vertically, but this is the shot I like the most. I ended up going with a black & white treatment for this one since I felt it really added to the drama of the scene.

This is a rare shot taken with my Tokina 11-17mm fish-eye lens. I really like the two bridges almost converging at the end.

Processed with Aperture 3, 5 exposures HDR done with Photomatix 4 with small touch ups in Nik Software's Viveza 2.

Montreal from the Concorde Bridge (HDR) [explored]

Montreal from the Concorde Bridge (HDR) [explored]

This shot was in Flickr's explore list on Sunday, July 3 2011.

Happy Canada Day everyone! I honored the occasion by going on an awesome photo shoot.

For a while now my buddy @phil404 and I were a little low on ideas for our next photo outing. Last weekend was a bust but we spotted this awesome view while coming back and we knew we had to come back here. It's a great spot that yielded a few nice shots. I'll be visiting it again soon, no doubt.

This shot was taken right at the entrance of the "Pont de la concorde" that leads to the Montreal Casino. Shot during blue hour, this HDR composite is quite nice I think.

Shot with my Nikon d300 and a Sigma 10-20mm f/3,5 lens at f11 and ISO 100. Slight edits in Aperture 3 and Viveza while the HDR was processed with Photomatix.

Let There Be Justice

Let There Be Justice

I was glad today to finally get back to shooting after a long winter and fall where lazyness took over. This is a nice light trail shot in Old Montreal on Notre-Dame street in front of the Quebec Provincial Appelate Court. This was a 150s expsure at f/22. It took several tries to get the correct mixture of aperture exposure time.

Shot with my D300 using a Sigma 10-20 f/3,5 lens and a 2-stops ND filter. Very little processing was done, mostly a little sharpening and adding a bit of texture using Viveza 2. Processed using Aperture 3.

Stargazing In The Woods

Stargazing In The Woods

Better late than never, right? @phil404 and I set out to watch the perseid shower... a day late. Still, we did manage to see a few one and we found a nice little road in the middle of nowhere to shoot the stars. This was the result of our 2 hours on that road.

This was my real first attempt at a star trail and isn't perfect. This was a 15 minutes exposure shot at f/3.5 but I think it would probably have been better with multiple smaller exposures. There's always a next time as they say.

Shot with my D300, color-corrected in Aperture 3 & Viveza 2 (finally in 64 bits!).

Check out Phil Essing's view of this same scene.
