Rural Abandon (18)

very tim burton. :)
Rural Abandon (18) by Jon Bradley Photography.
made to #53 in Explore March 6th 2007
This photo won 1st place in the 2008 Black Walnut Festival photo show.

For my Rural Abandon project.
All the shots that are in the Rural Abandon set, are all taken at various abandon houses/barns/factories that are in my area.

Had to replace photo because I added a watermark so people wouldn't try to steal the image.

The dereliction, the reflection, the tones - all very nice. But the closeness of the shot on the window leaves no room to imagine what the building held, its story. Perhaps a ghostly figure in one of the panes would have added to it. But it doesn't match the defender. Here a real moment in time is captured with a whole story.

Perhaps not as much of a story as the defender, but the detail that is captured in such high contrast is wonderful. I really see the amount of harsh weather the old relic's endured over time. The broken pane and wobbly tree in the reflection add to the loneliness. Therefore, my vote is

Focus looks a bit soft and the dynamic range seems too narrow. I much prefer the defender.

this is lovely and I really like shots like this, but it just doesn't carry as much interest as the defenders, which tells a story.
