Color me unimpressed. It looks almost identical to Android and considering Android's ability to be installed on netbooks, Jolicloud has some competition.

Looks different.

Do we really need yet another OS though?

I'd rather use:

Ubuntu Mobile Internet Device (MID) Edition
www.ubuntu.com/products/mobile

Or:

Ubuntu Netbook Remix

Looks neat, but those are just web apps am I wrong? What about running native Linux applications. The iPhone taught us that web apps are not an entirely satisfying experience, and that people will inevitably want native applications. I run Ubuntu on my EeePC and I use mostly webapps, because most native apps don't function well on my small screen. Build a windowing toolkit, like GTK, or KDE for building iPhone-like native apps, and you'll have yourself a real winner. Until then, this is essentially a pretty Firefox skin is it not?

Look good, but the key thing here is the AppStore idea, isn't it? Every other OS makes loading new apps a chore: the iPod approach (and I resisted the cult of Mapple for as long as I could, so no, I'm not a fanboi) is so intuitive and idiot-proof that now everything else feels prehistoric.

WANT.

But the shinies are one thing. I do like shinies, but if it doesn't work, then... no thanks.

I suggest spending as much effort building in hardware support as designing a sweet GUI. I want to pop the USB stick into my HP Mini 1000 and have it install, configure, and WORK without having to spend hours digging around in the forums to find out why the webcam or the sound is borked.

Pretty + Function = WIN.

Joliclound please do NOT forget Atom MIDs too!
If you need testers I'm 8 years experienced linux user and sysadmin and I've a BenQ MID S6 that runs on a kernel 2.6.18.
I *really* hope to forget Midinux as soon as possible!
You can contact me privately, I'll be pride to help.
Thanks a lot!

P.S.: What packet manager Jolicloud will use?

tdfs, Jolicloud is Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com) with a themed Netbook Remix interface (http://www.canonical.com/projects/ubuntu/nbr ). So it is using aptitude / deb / apt-get. Atom MIDs will be supported as Ubuntu supports them.

wow! The first impact is just great! The interface really looks slick and simple. Just perfect! But of course any os tends to look better in a screenshot than in real life... I mean, ubuntu studio looked great in the screenies...

Anyway, I'm really exited about this one! The whole netbook thing is actually a great chance for interface design in operating systems... maybe there's something new coming after all!
