Exmoor Ranger
65HP Hunslet Diesel, originally built 1975 for British Coal at Murton Colliery surface. 1985 it was transfered to Seaham Locomotive Training Centre where it was named 'Laura' in 1989. Following closure of the centre in 1993, the loco was overhauled and donated to the Woodhorn Colliery Museum near Ashington, Northumberland.
The loco was then employed on the QEII Country Park Railway at Woodhorn Colliery Museum, and in 1996 was named 'Black Diamond' to mark the railway's opening. The loco was renamed 'Elizabeth and Victoria' in 2002 after the daughters of a sponsor. In 2004 the diesel came to the L and BR on a two year loan from Wansbeck District Council. The loco has now been named 'Exmoor Ranger' to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Exmoor National Park and is used as our standby locomotive. 2006 will be Exmoor Ranger's last season on the Lynton and Barnstaple before it returns to its owners.
