      I once took a boat for a row on the basinstoke canal when doing some training at a barracks there.....the canal is probably silted up and overgrown now.

      Not at all ... the canal has been fully restored, starting in the 1960s, and is navigable as far as Greywell, where the tunnel has collapsed and will not be restored. It's a leisure resource and a long thin nature reserve.

      This solder's last concern must be to be ambushed by hooligans jumping out from the bushes. "Your money, or your life chump" may be the second last sentance, just before, "please, please don't kill us. We were only joking"!
