canton main street
Canton's Main Street. This is probably the best view, as these are the least altered facades. It seems Canton caught the remodeling bug in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and the results aren't pretty. Please: someone with a ton of cash invest in restoring Canton!

Wow~this is definately the best shot of Canton I've seen. You've made it seem so charming! If only people knew that if you were standing on the other side of the street, they'd gasp in horror at the site of the ugly blue/white old administrative building that was uglified in the '60s/'70s.

The same thing happened here in Russellville Ar. Our downtown was raped in the 70 and 80s, a whole block was torn down and a huge bank of america building went in its place, its terrible. A lot of our other buildings had crappy modernism fronts applied to them, so they look terrible. But luckily a preservation society was recently formed and we plan on tearing down all that awful crap on our buildings and restoring them to their former glory and redoing the streetscapes.
