No Magic Donkey Here
This beautiful sunset photo will not reach Explore on Flickr. Never. I left for our honeymoon last April and since then not a single one of my photos have hit the Explore page according to Scout. Over the years, I’ve literally had HUNDREDS of photos make the front page of the old Explore or in other areas on the famous front page of Flickr. But for almost a year now, not a single one.
Flickr doesn’t allow advertising on the photo descriptions or links to outside websites. But I’ve heard from others that Flickr will contact them directly and ask them to remove such items. No one has ever contacted me about this, yet my photos go unnoticed by the Magic Donkey. Even with photos that have thousands of views, hundreds of favorites still go completely under the radar. On purpose?
Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal. Fame and attention isn’t my goal. BUT, historically I have garnered a lot of business derived from people searching on popular photos on Flickr searching for such terms as wedding or engagement or Ventura County Family Photographer even Los Angeles Wedding Photographer. Key words that my popular photos are tagged with which in turn prospective clients use to find me. Booked dozens of weddings and other shoots because at one time my photos did rank high on here.
I contacted Flickr a while ago and they sent me a form letter saying that the way to get on Explore is to take interesting photos and they’re randomly selected. But I also know from experience and talking with others that they have banned people in the past. I don’t want to be popular, I want my photos to get a fair chance of the attention they deserve, if they deserve it.
