Body Blow!
I’m always up for a new adventure. Since Friday, I photographed a concert, a boxing tournament, a holiday party, and a classic car. Needless to say, my right hand is numb.
Those who know me understand I don’t like blood or violence. I could NEVER be a doctor or policeman for that reason. So the idea of being ringside to shoot a charity boxing tournament sounded challenging. But I’m always up for it, so I asked my father-in-law to come with and together we shot The Battle of the Badges – Guns vs. Hoses(police vs fire dept) to support the Oxnard Boys & Girls Club. Mike is more of a long lens guy, so with his D3 and 400 f/2.8 he was up top as far away and shot down as they battled. Me being more of a wide angle guy, used my 17-35 2.8 and shot ringside on the mat itself. The lighting was good, but still dark, and when you have big dudes throwing punches, need to shoot at at least 1/200th. So I kept my camera at ISO 4000 most of the night, unless doing portraits or posed shots.
More shots of the event here. Hundreds of shots
I’ll have more car/party/concert photos during the week. I need to give my hands a rest. Now it’s raining. I hope you all had a fantasterrific weekend.

Forever really can mean Forever
Sometimes forever realty means forever. But you have to work at it. Of the 50 weddings I've photographed the past 2 years, as far as I know, they’re all still married. I did have some questions on some of them as the connection between the man & wife just seemed too business-like. Not love but obligation because of financial reasons, a mutual child, or parental pressure. Then there are those weddings where you can really tell they are meant for each other, there is respect, love and absolute adoration. I’ll be honest, I do like a wedding where the bride/groom spend most of their time together. I’ve seen SO many where after their first dance, he hangs out with his friends, and she hangs out with her friends, and it’s hard to get another shot of them together, unless I make it happen.
I was going to post this super saturated photo of Mono Lake today, but realized I haven’t put up a wedding shot in a while either. And with only one wedding in December, I need to keep up with it. Also need to keep up my blog. OH, but tomorrow night, I have a media pass for a charity boxing tournament; police vs fire dept. Needless to say, we all know we want the ____________ to win!
Have a great weekend all.

Time to Decorate!
When you absolutely run out of things to decorate...
I went to photograph Danielle's newborn and got ALL the way out there and then I realized... crap, I forgot my basket full of newborn knitted accessories! So, not wanting to waste the afternoon, we used what they had and came up with some pretty cool ideas based around Christmas, since it's a Christmas baby. They'll probably use something like this on their Christmas cards. Nice and simple.
Hope you all are having a HoHoHoppy Holiday season.
Oh yeah, and I got kicked off jury duty. That's what telling the truth does for ya!

Guilty!
Just a quick snapshot of yesterday's sunset down at the beach near me. I stacked 3 filters to get this. Professionally handheld, of course.
I might not be on much the next couple of weeks. I've been in jury duty, and to my surprise might be on a jury for the next 3 weeks. Perhaps not. We'll find out later today. I used to hate jury duty, but now I'm curious to see how the legal process works. So perhaps just today again, or upto the next 3 weeks. So I'll let some shots trickle in when I have time.
Now go get your Christmas shopping done!

Urban Arch
It really amazes me the generosity of some people. In addition, this whole concept that people on flickr and elsewhere are just ‘internet people’ and not real people.
Sunday I was asked to come down to Orange County to photograph yoga instructor, mentor and blogger Geri once again. Last time the concept was beauty, so we shot her at the Long Beach marina in daylight. This time, she wanted a more rugged, urban look. Beautiful yoga in an urban setting.
I asked Steve Moore and Hector Cruz if they wanted to come along, shoot along, etc. There wasn’t much money involved, but I thought it might be fun.
Not only did they both want to come along (and drive miles to get there) but they allowed me to use their Alien Bees, Cyber Syncs, ring flash, octabox and their entire studio. Plus, they helped with all the lighting, etc. I’m just blown away.
Now the funny thing is that their new studio Moore & Cruz just opened and they are doing some amazing work. Both come from different backgrounds, so when they combine for a portrait shoot, wedding, or just something fun, you better believe they have the equipment, skills and personality to make it happen. Does it sound like I’m giving an endorsement? You betcha. If you’re in the OC or LA area, be sure to look them up.
Thanks again guys!
This was shot at ISO 2500. Almost SOOC. There was an AlienBee 1600 on the left and right, both just using their modeling lamp, in some dark alley in Santa Ana.
