Mackinaw Bridge, late afternoon, partly cloudy
![]() The sun struggled to break through the fast-moving clouds. I rode along the north shore, the towers of the bridge growing in my view. Suddenly, the sun broke through and lit the towers with a warm glow that contrasted with the cooler shades all around. I rushed to a suitable place to shoot, hastily positioned the bike for the shot, and alas, the light was gone, replaced with dull grays. I could take that shot and leave and had every reason to be moving along, but knew that I'd be forever haunted by the shot I could have made, the shot that I missed.
So I waited. And waited. And watched the clouds roll in and the waves break upon the shore. And waited. And then the clouds broke momentarily but cast its warm glow only on one of the towers. So I waited. And waited. And waited some more. I had many more miles to ride and knew that I'd now arrive at my destination after dark, cold and tired. Still I waited. And my patience was rewarded.
