The Golden Gate Bridge at night

The Golden Gate Bridge at night by John

I took a little trip across the Golden Gate Bridge for a late afternoon hike around the Marin Headlands. On the way up I was lucky enough to see a rainbow over the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay. The hike itself was awesome, including some post-sunset deer encounters (no pictures), and I stopped to shoot the Golden Gate Bridge in all its glory on the way back.

As to the camera...

Pros:

Small
Light (as DSLRs go)
Same image capability as a D90
Flip out screen
Extra preset "scene modes"
Good battery life

Cons:

Early models had power circuit problem (Nikon have a retrofit program)
no internal auto-focus motor - lenses need to have motor
not as "professional feeling" as some of their larger models

... So it really depends what you want - for me I wanted something better than the D40x but that wasn't much bigger (as I hike and travel a lot and don't like to carry tons of kit with me)... The flip-out screen is a lot more useful than you might first think too (plus it folds with the screen into the camera for stowing so not likely to get scratched)
