Rooster (?) + Chickens

Recently, we noticed that "Lola" (the white Leghorn) has been making what sound like abbreviated attempts at crowing. After watching her behavior, querying the forums at BackyardChickens.com, and some Google research, we think "she" may be a "he." Lola, therefore, has lately become Larry. We're still waiting to hear a full-blown cock-a-doodle-doo out of her/him, but odds are good we will.

On the (remote) other hand, some female Leghorns do get rather large combs and wattles like ours. However, for being only 9 weeks old, it's pretty unusual that a hen would have as large a comb as our Leghorn does right now.

Further side note: one of the commenters at the forum thinks Alice may be a dude too. Super bummer.

UPDATE: Pretty sure I heard an almost full-blown crow out of Larry this afternoon. He's totally a dude.
