B-24 Liberator 41-29542 "Rough House Kate" on mission to Blanchemont France 20 June 1944

Lew Funk's mission log states: 6-21-44 Blanchemont and Haute Cote France Target No Ball, 42 Aircrafts, 109.3 Tons Dropped, Results Poor to Fair No Aircrafts Lost, No KIA, No WIA, Time 4:20

valortovictory.tripod.com/b24s/41-29542.htm identifies ship 41-29542 as "Rough House Kate"

however the June mission logs at valortovictory.tripod.com/1944-06.htm do not list this particilar aircraft on the mission to Blanchemont on 20 June 1944.

Interestingly the original pictures that Lew Funk filed with HQ had the name mis-recorded as "Blawsermont France 20 June 1944"

This plane ended up being transfered to the 702nd BS, 445th BG, 8th AF. It was shot down by fighters on the September 27,1944 mission to Kassel,Germany. Two of the crew were killed during the fighter attacks. The Engineer/Top Turret Gunner, T/Sgt. Andrew H. Fratta, was hit in the head by a 20mm cannon shell and killed instantly. The Tail Gunner, S/Sgt. Raymond J. Paulus had his turret controls smashed during the attack, covering him in hydraulic fluid which was ignited by an incendiary cannon shell, burning him to death. The rest of the crew bailed out safely but the Co-Pilot was caught by German civilians and beaten so severly that he died in a Luftwaffe hospital. The others ended up in POW camps. MACR 9750
