Seven about to happen three different ways

For the curious: this was shot at 1/500s and f/11 with a bounce flash. The camera was on a tripod. I dropped the dice onto white tile (you can just see a reflection underneath the white die) and tripped the shutter with a remote. It took about fifty tries to get this combination. In post-production, I bumped the contrast and cloned out what was left of the grout lines. The dice are from a Star Wars monopoly game. I guess the Force was with me. :-)

Second place in Theme Competition #7: Lucky 7s. First place was {platinum}.

Simple, elegant, brilliant! Especially love how you just captured the motion while leaving so much out... Bravo!

    9. fd (97 months ago | reply)

Thanks, everyone. I only had to throw them about 50 times for them to come out this way. :-)

    10. Tampen (97 months ago | reply)

brilliant shot, fd, but if this wins the Theme Competition we're going to be denied the pleasure of rubbishing the judge.....

You have such patience. I would have photographed them still and added the motion blur in Photoshop. LOL

Seriously, this is a great capture.

      Thanks. :-)

Tampen, I'm sure you don't need a reason to do that. :-)

Mike, not that much patience. It's easier when you're procrastinating about something else.

Super cool! Equal parts skill and creativity. I love the black & white, too ... this just wouldn't have had as much punch with any other dice. Congrats. :-) (k)

      wow
i love dices, and this is certainly the best shot of them i've seen on flickr so far.

Nice one and congrats fd, I think the patience lies in the family, when I'm on a bender trying to get a perfect shot the missus just stands at the corner of the room tapping her foot (now there's a shot....)!!

    37. vasta (85 months ago | reply)

this looks particularly brilliant now that flickr has done away with the gray borders around the photos.

    38. fd (85 months ago | reply)

      Hey, that's neat.

    39. alterednate (85 months ago | reply)

yup, except it seems as though their background isn't 100% white as on my monitor I can see the difference between the photo and the background...

gotta go see what some of mine look like now!!

    40. fd (85 months ago | reply)

      You're right. It's RGB 254, 254, 254. Just shy of pure white.

    41. alterednate (85 months ago | reply)

Wonder why they did that? I guess most people will see it as pure white - i see on my LCD at work that I can no longer see the difference.

Certianly changes a bit the nature of photos with whitegrounds and no border.
