I'm confused on the texture. How did you do the texture with mesh?

John A Burnett says:

Leo - The grip texture is the only part of the illustration that was not created with the mesh tool. I had started to do the grip texture using gradient mesh, but in the end it seemed like that was not the most efficient way to create the effect. I apologize if my description was misleading.

I was just curious. Is it like speckled vectors everywhere? That is one EXCEPTIONAL piece of work.

John A Burnett says:

Leo - The texture for the grip, and the texture for the other plastic parts was done using Photoshop. I imported the shape into Photoshop and played around with texturizing filters until it looked about right, then i vectorized the shape in illustrator. I then adjusted the opacity of the layer to get the right effect.

this is absolutely amazing. how did you learn this?
Posted 21 months ago. ( permalink )

John A Burnett says:

sprigggganHUBERT: I learned from various how-to articles about gradient mesh and a determination to get it right. It was a lot of fun to do and I'm thinking about what to do next. I'd like to do something that looks realistic but isn't a real thing at all. I thought it might be funny to do a blending of the Toyota Prius with a Hummer. Something like that...

Good God .... that's incredible. Funny thing is, I was contemplating doing the EXACT same subject for a vector drawing, but I chose to undertake drawing an A10 Thunderbolt jet instead. This XD is well done - you should be proud!
