100 years and still going strong
Came across a gentleman who will be 100 in Sept 2007.
He is Mr Mahadev Kashinath Gokhale.
He still sits at his book stall everyday watching the passer by and probably making a mental note of them. He was willing to pose for me and did answer a few questions that I put forth in Marathi. After the photography session I stood far and watched him. When old timers came along to buy the newspaper, there was a smile and a twinkle in his eyes.
Till the age of 90 his daily routine included climbing the nearby temple steps (Parvati temple - one of the landmarks of Pune). This temple is situated on a hill and has 108 steep steps. A marathon runner, his many feats include climbing the Parvati hill on his hands, and cycling to Karachi (Pakistan)
Update:
Sept 10th 2007 : Saw a clipping in the paper where he celebrated his 100th B'day today.
Update:
He expired at the age of 103 in Nov 2010
