I'm deeply offended. Okay, now I'm over it.
It's on Mack at the corner of Lenox. But
they're out of business, if you were thinking
of getting a cow.

What, the Tilde Milk Bar is closed? Maybe the
alien antenna sticking out of Bossie's head
was giving people the wrong idea.

I enjoyed your paper at the recent symposium,
and I think I agree with you that there's a
general decline in construction standards for
giant fiberglass statues generally.

It's been there a long time- since the 60s
for sure and maybe the 50s but I was too
young then to notice. Never got ice cream
there. Mostly we bought the big blocks fof
Stroh's (coffee or George Washington cherry)
and ate it at home!

Wondering if there was any connection between
Stroh's beer and Stroh's ice cream I did a
quick google and found this: info.detnews.com/history/story/index.cfm?id=8
0&catego...
Apparently there is. The ice cream was born
during prohibition and was spun off into a
separate unit after prohibition ended in
1933. Then in 1987 it was sold to another
company.

Joey, is this your most popular photo on
flickr by now? It is incredible, it always
shows up on my 'comments you've made' page on
the first spot from all the comments made
recently!
I lived in an apartment building on Dickerson
and I was there the day this cow was
installed. It must have been 1963 or so. We
moved away in 1965. I have a strong
emotional attachment to this cow! This was
MY childhood ice cream store. I heard, from
a group called "Friends of the
Barn" that raise money and take care of
an original Wilson Barn, that the cow was a
Wilson Dairy billboard statue prior to being
moved to this location. Anyway ... great
shot! Magpiemoxie on flickr (my other name)
has some pix of the cow too but not as nice
as yours.

Hey, thanks for your personal recollections.
Good to know when it dates from.
