Polarizing Filter Comparison
A "circular polarizing filter" can make an enormous difference whenever you shoot any reflective surface, especially water.
I took these two shots within a few seconds of each other, the left with the polarizing filter rotated to eliminate all reflections and the right with the filter rotated to allow all reflections. Not only are the reflections on the left gone from the surface of the water, but they're also removed from the lily pads, allowing the more saturated colors to come through.
(The two photos are straight out of the camera except for conversion to jpeg and shrinking for uploading here. No other alterations were made at all.)
