gowanus canal

gowanus canal by joe holmes.
...taken seconds before I was told that photography is prohibited on the 9th Street bridge because of 9-11 concerns.

Those crafty terrorists -- blow up the 9th St bridge, and they'll bring this country to its knees.

If someone would just point me to a rule, or a law, or a sign, or something. But no... I politely asked the guy today to please tell me where this rule is, what book or paper or Web site.

God forbid the terrorists would get access to the Gowanus Canal and contaminate the water.

9/11 was a great thing for cops - gives 'em one more fucking excuse to bully people and tell people what do to.

(seen on gothamist. congrats, joe!)

I've never had a problem with a point and shoot, but once I pull out the SLR, or (oh, my god he looks like a terrorist!) a tripod, the cops and security guards are sure to come calling.

Saw this on gothamist too.

keep taking photos since there's no law saying you can't.

@broddi: I would think that a tripod would be the "he's safe" cue, since there's nothing surreptitious at that point.

Who told you this? A cop? Someone else? He's full of it.

The guy worked in the tower of the drawbridge there. The NYC Department of Transportation Bridge Operations Office runs all the bridges along the canal, so I assume he works for that office.

I can find no reference to photography in any of the NYCDOT info online...
