Failure

Failure by Joe Hastings.
Project 365 #128 06/05/07

After our walk through the jungle we were hot, sweaty, dirty and about ready for a shower. As we left the cover of the trees and hit the open air by the river once again all of my senses were screaming at me to just jump in. Shortly after, we saw a group of elephants being bathed on the opposite side of the river and couldn't help but join in.

After helping the handler bathe the elephant (which consisted of scrubbing her with a brick while she rolled happily in the muddy river) we were invited to hop on for a little ride. The elephant and handler obviously had other ideas though and tried their best to ensure we couldn't stay on for too long. Most mounting attempts ended up with us being thrown or shaken off.

We spent an hour or so swimming with our new friend until the allure of a real shower got the better of us. Besides, we had a jeep safari to attend this afternoon and I wasn't about to miss it.

I see now how you've managed to go for years without a driver's license--looks like you'd have trouble even getting a "riders license." Clearly the "handler" has his priorities straight.

Our guide Chuda took these.

I handed him my camera and went to give him the basic instructions i.e. half hold down the shutter button to autofocus etc etc and he just took it off me, told me not to worry and took a whole bunch of great photographs!

I sweat those jungle guides can do anything! He was quite a distance away too, these are all taken with a 300mm lens, we were out in the middle of the river.
