Augrabies Flat Lizard (Platysaurus broadleyi)

The males are brightly coloured to attract the attention of the much duller females. This unfortunately also attract the predators like kestrels etc. Found all over the rocky areas of the Augrabies National Park. Photographed during December 2007.

Now this is one flamboyant guy! Amazing all the colours on him.

Those colours are spectacular. I'm sure the females are most impressed. Too bad it makes them so vulnerable. I photographed a bright lizard in Kenya similar to this but with a different and less impressive colour scheme.
