High Key Cat

High Key Cat

This was taken in Cornwall, in a little village called Mousehole. This village has a lovely story about a cat linked to it (google it if you want more info). This was one of the cats that was hanging around in the harbour area. He seemed far more interested in people watching than getting any fuss, but he/she didn't mind posing for a few shots. I went for a bit of spot metering to blow the highlights and get some detail in the fur.

Tranquil Warnings

Tranquil Warnings

A shot from the archives. So much so that I can't even remember where this is. Somewhere near Bolton (UK) though I think! Marcel, Gaz (check links for...erm..links) and I were driving around looking for a decent sunset, we weren't doing too well till we found a little opening in these trees revealing a pretty impressive sky over this reservoir. The signs weren't initially part of the composition, but getting bored of silhouetted trees against the sunset I went for a bit of fill flash on the signs and for some reason I really like the shot. Just seems a good juxtaposition of hard square ugly warnings and lovely soft nature in the background (that sounds a bit poncy but sod it).

Carol Singing in sub-zero temperatures

Carol Singing in sub-zero temperatures

Carol singing in Carleton-in-Craven. It was about -2 this evening when I was taking this shot, so a bit nippy! The snow stopped falling long enough to keep the camera dry but I wish I could have got a few flakes in the sky.

Kate & Joe's Wedding5

Kate & Joe's Wedding5

This is the rare occasion of me photographing a wedding. The bride is my cousin so I was happy to make an exception. This is one of my favourites from the day, the building in the background was the location of the reception, the City Rooms in Leicester.

From me to 3792

From me to 3792

Another one from the Archives (I will go out and take some new photos one day). This is at the Edinburgh Festival in the 'Summer'. I decided to take the Rolleicord (120 film camera) out for the day and go and get some shots on the Highstreet. This area is full of performers for the whole of the Festival. It is a great place for people watching, but normally a bit too crowded to great people shots. Luckily, for me, this pair decided to start advertising their show "From me to 3792" in an unusually quiet spot, and just as I was walking towards them. Luckily the Rollei was set for exposure/shutter speed etc so I was able to crouch down and get this shot. The great thing about using and old fashioned (looking at least) camera is that people recognise you aren't going to just grab a quick shot and leave and actually seem to pose and wait for you. Its great, and let me wait a few seconds for the bloke on the left to walk past and add a bit more interest to the shot.
