Peekaboo!

Peekaboo!

Something about this picture makes me so very happy.
Babies always make me smile, but getting them to smile is sometimes another matter.

I wanted some soft window light for her precious little face, but I also wanted an expression, something genuine. How to get her by the window with a real smile? ...Maybe if we play peekaboo with the white curtains?

The first "Boo" evoked a little smirk.

The second "Boo" a full smile.

And the third, miraculous "BOO!"... This!

Joy of joys! Triumph! Huzzah!

That's not to say kids don't get bored quickly though. She didn't stay for a fourth "Boo" and she ran off, leaving me there behind the curtain alone. -_-

Waiting to Fall

Waiting to Fall

After a downpour of rain on the tropical beaches of Tayrona, the seas turn cold and dark. The white sands are brown with mud.

And yet some things, the smallest leaves, hold an intrinsic beauty in the drops saved beneath their faces.

Just waiting to fall.

In the Shadows of Giants

In the Shadows of Giants

Muir Woods, California

While peering up through the canopy of trees that have existed many generations longer than anyone now living, the feeling of my own size and insignificance starts to sink in.

The path through the midst of the forest seems like an ant trail through a garden.

But we are ants with chainsaws, bulldozers, and chemical waste.

"God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools." -John Muir

Pink Haven

Pink Haven

One of the smallest snails in the garden rests in the delicate pink petals of a blooming flower.

Taken on a day out with Vanessa in the Botanical Gardens of San Francisco, Golden Gate Park.

Update: geotagged! I need a GPS unit. Sigh...
