why would we want Pluto back? It's small and it's orbit is highly elliptical, it's a satellite of our sun, sure, but it's understandable to not place it in the same category as the rest of the planets. Astronomy, and science in general, seems to be all about who can split hairs in the finest and most consistent way anyways, the decision to demote Pluto fit's in with what I expect from large scientific bodies.

Science isn't about sentiment and good feelings. It's about facts. You don't get to change things because it makes you feel better. You can't make Pluto a planet just because you want it to be or because it was considered one when you grew up.

Wow, people, lighten up :) Science is about facts; your son's play ball, hopefully, is about sentiment and good feelings.

I told Jason to stop living in the 20th century, but apparently he's not able to do so. Now he's going to drag our son back there as well!

As the Kottke.org pluto mnemonic winner, I think it's great we're still trying to get Pluto back. Although if Pluto doesn't come back to be a planet, perhaps we can do the same thing with George W. Bush's presidency.

If you deny it until the end of time, does that mean it didn't happen?

Look, if Pluto couldn't hack it, it doesn't deserve our solar system. Let it elliptical its ass right the hell out into the Oort cloud, for all I care. I think we all know anything past Mars is crap. Tha Inna System Rulz.

I've found that Pluto's downgrade has actually been a an upgrade for the other dwarf planets. A few months back we bought a solar system poster for my son at a school supplies store, it had the 8, plus Ceres, Pluto and Eris. This was before Makemake was welcomed into the dwarves club. So now my 6-yr old is convinced there are 13 planets in our solar system, even if some of them are littler.
