Pomegranate Season
148/365
While hiking a couple of days ago, I think I twisted my knee or something, and the upshot has been what's felt like a lost weekend: no hiking at all, and only brief trips out of the house. In a way, it's been nice; I've spent the whole of today reading -- something I rarely do anymore, to my occasional chagrin -- and eating tasty fall fruits while catching up on a couple of old episodes of CSI.
Pomegranates are among my favorite fruits; they're complicated and potentially messy, and terrifically rewarding at their best. It used to be the start of a new school year that signalled Autumn to me, but I think now it's those grocery store bins of giant pomegranates. I can crack them open without damaging a single sweet kernel, and then peel away the interstitial membranes to reveal the densely-packed jewels, cluster by cluster.
Still, I'd better be able to cover some miles next weekend, is all I'm saying.
