Our Small Falcon - American Kestrel

On occasion I have spotted an American Kestrel on the top of of medium sized trees, hovering over a prey site and perched on the occasional road sign. Due to their small size, you might not notice them unless you are familiar with our smallest falcon in N. America.

American Kestrel - Female

American Kestrel - Female

A beautiful small falcon - 9" tall, this female American Kestrel resides at the Howell Nature Center. She has a permanent wing injury which prevents her from returning to the wild. She is an ambassador bird for the Birds of Prey nature program at the Howell Nature Center.
